Beardy Beardy nice

I am so happy today! My mom finished the hat and beard she was crocheting for me. Now I have a beard like my Uncle Matt and Gandpa Scott.

We finished chapter six in Harry Potter. It was about Gilderoy Lockhart and repotting mandrakes. I thought it was funny when the Cornish pixies picked up Neville by his ears. Poor Neville! And see you guys next time by!

Halfway there

Today I read in my book "Dragon Slayer's Academy: A Wedding for Wiglaf". I read halfway through chapter 8. Daisy the pig is still under the pig Latin spell and she will always be under it. Wiglaf's teacher, Mordred, only wants gold. So none of the students get to keep their gold. A princess named Belcheena wants to marry Wiglaf but he doesn't want to marry her. He is only 12!

My mom and I are reading Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets. We read chapter 4. They went to Diagon Alley to buy school books. And they saw Malfoy and his dad and the Weasleys dad had a fight. They also met Gilderoy Lockhart. The girls and moms all think he's a hottie. Gilderoy saw Harry Potter and took a picture with him for the front page and gave him all of his books. I can't wait to finish this book because I want to see the movie. In my family, it is a rule that you have to read the book before you can see the movie. My sister had to read The Hunger Games before they watched the movie.

I took a spelling test today and I only missed 5. This was the first test I had on these words. I will practice the words I missed and can test them again. I also got 3 of the extra credit words right. I had not studied those words at all!

I am doing fractions in Math. I like fractions. I called this post Halfway There because I am halfway into my chapter, and it's halfway into the week and I'm learning fractions. For once again goodbye and see you later!

Crystals

I studied about crystals last week. "A crystal is a solid that has a definite geometrical shape with straight edges and flat surfaces." - definition from The Usborne Science Encyclopedia
Did you know that humans eat rock? It's called salt. The solid form of salt is called rock salt, or halite. It is not like the rocks on a driveway or a mountain. Salt is a very soft mineral that forms square- shaped crystals. It is not like my mom's ring that is a diamond and square. Diamonds have to be cut into the shape you want. Salt will form in a square every time.

We made our own salt crystals. We boiled water and added salt one teaspoon at a time to make a super-saturated solution. Then we poured it into a jar. I added red food coloring to make it look red. We got a pencil, some string and a paper clip and tied them together. We put the pencil on top of the jar and left it alone. After just one afternoon I could see the crystals forming. I left it alone for a week. There were square salt crystals on the string and at the bottom of the jar and on the paper clip. The crystals were pink. I wanted red crystals but that's usually what happens when you color something with red coloring that is white. I will use blue next time.

My first post

This is my first blog post. I am 9 years old. I live in Manama, Bahrain. I go to Odyssey Academy. My home is also my school. I am starting this blog so my sisters (and my grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles and cousins) will know what I did during the day. Here are some pictures of what I have done before to day.
This is a Greek amphitheater made out of Legos.  We are studying the Greeks right now.

This is a statue of an ancient Assyrian king named Asherbanipal. My mom took this picture for me when she went to London. We studied about him and King Nebuchadnezzar before she left.

This is all for now. I want to learn more and I will post more later.
